I have Properly Worked out Why My Windows Live Write Plugin Was Not Working

Paul Kinlan

In two of my previous post I have talked about not being able to get the Windows Live Writer Plugins to work. It was all because I was adding new classes in via the solution explorer, and when doing this the class is "made" with out an access modifier, which means that it is "internal" by default and thus wouldn't be reflected (or what ever mechanism the Windows Live Writer tool uses).

Windows Live Writer Plugin Development Question

Paul Kinlan

I am in the process of playing with the SmartContentSource class for creating a plugin. But I am having some problems. I am debugging my plugin, to see the state of certain objects such as the SmartContent Objects. My Plugin creates a side bar and manipulates the SmartContent Object, all fine and well. The problem that I am having is that I can determine what text is in the blog post at the moment.

Call Me Stupid

Paul Kinlan

I have been sitting at my desk for 45 minutes now trying to work out how to create a plugin for the Windows Live write in C#. Reading the documentation, it should be one of the easiest things in the world. Reading the Example, it should be one of the easiest things in the world. Writing a simple "Hello World" app has become so frustrating. All my code seems to be okay.

Got a Windows Live Writer Plugin Working

Paul Kinlan

With Reference to my previous post "Call Me Stupid" I have now got a plugin working. The only thing that I can say that I did was to start from the beging again. Over the next couple of days when I get chance, I am going to convert my Ajax Tagger to the Windows Live Writer Framework. It should be a good experiment of create a Mashup of Web 2.0 API's into the Windows Live Writer Application.

Google Adsense in the UK

Paul Kinlan

If like me you live in the UK and you also have a Google Adsense account, keep the money in the account until the $/£ exchange rate comes down a bit. I got my first payment from Google and the money I got for it was pitiful (especially considering it took me a year to get up to the limit). Aditionally, I also belive if you are an advertiser in the UK you are also getting done by, 1p > 1c by almost twice as much.

If you seem a strange post in your blog, it may be Windows Live Writer

Paul Kinlan

I have been seeing a lot of weird posts in blogs recently. That go along the lines: Temporary Post Used For Style Detection (d21..............) The only reason why this appears must be because Windows Live writer puts it in their so that it can display the "in style" editing for your blog posts. It makes sense I suppose when you think about it. But it is only there for minutes and Google Blog Search picked it up.

Windows Live Writer

Paul Kinlan

I am writing this through Windows Live Writer. There is a lot of talk on blogs about this at the moment. I must say initially I am quite impressed. Whilst editing this post it is using the colours and styles of my site. The applications appears to be extendable, using an SDK. I am not sure as to what is involved in writing an extension but it should be fun. More information about extensions can be found at http://dev.

XBox 360 and C# .Net WILL be Available Soon!

Paul Kinlan

A little while ago if you typed "C# Xbox 360" into Google I was the number 1 result. I got a lot of hits each day for this query and I didn't know why. It turns out I was one of the only people talking about it. At the time I said, there is no way there will ever be C# on an Xbox 360 and if there was there would never be a Hobby Homebrew version.

Removed my feed from Squeet

Paul Kinlan

I have removed my feed from squeet. I was getting a lot of problems where by it would send me about 5 or 6 updates to my old posts a day. Not many people were subscribing to it, so I have removed it from my site to stop any more problems.

A project that I thought was a good idea

Paul Kinlan

A little while ago, I embarked on two side projects, one called www.Topicala.com, Topicala at the time was quite a sucessful test project that gets a fair few users. The second was called iforgive.eu and iforgiv.eu.I bought the .eu domains when they came out because I thought that I had a good marketing change with “I forgive u”, since other .us domains had become popular ala del.icio.us. I had several ideas for this domain and I will list them now, each of which would never work out.

Topicala

Paul Kinlan

A little while ago I launched Topicala.com. Topicala basically was an extension of my tag directory but it was not specific to my site. I have been thinking over the last couple of weeks (whilst I have been unable to keep topicala up to date) that I might as well make it distributable, i.e that anyone could run the software. So that is what I am going to do.I will release the code shortly, once I have re-deployed it under the kinaln.

I am still not happy with the style of this site

Paul Kinlan

I go through fazes, I really like the look of my site, then it hits me…. Really, the style of my site is rubbish. I am going to have to change it again, the only problem is that I don’t really get much time at all.Anyway, at least I have come up with a potential logo for the site, (when the new design kicks in). I thought I would mess around with some vector graphic programs and see what I can come up with.

BBC Programme Calendar to iCal Works in Outlook 2007

Paul Kinlan

A little while ago, I created a mini mash up that used the BBC’s programme API to find programs with a specific keyword in and then convert that data into an iCal file. I thought it would be a good test to see if Outlook 2007 can import the date from the mash-up. The good news is that it can, and it is easy to do. Simply go to your account settings menu, and then click on the internet calendars tab, click “new” and then enter the URL for the programme timetable that you want to see.

Testing From Microsoft Word 2007

Paul Kinlan

I am just testing the Blog feature from Word 2007. If this works it is pretty cool. I really love the interfaces to Excel, Word and PowerPoint. The ribbon is sooo sweet. I am slightly disappointed so far with Visio. Visio seems to be a simple rehash of earlier versions. Smart Art is pretty cool, it is appears to be CSS to the max! I may end up using Word 2007 permanently!

Yahoo's API Terms and Conditions are really Harsh

Paul Kinlan

I have been a long time advocator of Yahoo’s developer API’s, they had a high API usage limits and fairly flexible terms and conditions. That is until recently. Yahoo has updated their T & C’s just recently, and I am sure that they have been tightened just enough to stifle innovation and competition. You are no longer allowed to have any sort of advertising on your site that displays any Yahoo API results.
