Google Search: c# css parser

Paul Kinlan

Another visitor came to my site from google with the query: “c# css parser”I have no idea why my site was found with this search, but I might as well try and answer the question.I did a little search on Google to see what I could find relating to a C# based CSS parser. I couldn’t find anything. I am tempted to try and make one now :) I can envisage it now.

Google Search: create a dsl connection in c#

Paul Kinlan

A visitor to my site came from google with the following query: “create a dsl connection in c#”.My short answer to this would be that you can’t create a specific dsl connection in c#. You just create TCP connections like you would in any programming and Windows will manage what network interface it will go over.look in to System.Net.Sockets and System.Net to see what you can do. Its not a great answer but I hope that it helps.

Books Blog

Paul Kinlan

I have been experimenting with WordPress and rather than break this blog I have created a new Blog at http://books.kinlan.co.uk. Basically the blog is there to test Word Press and also put my book reviews on their with the hope of providing a service and also maybe giving me a small small referal revenue.WordPress is very very very smart. I really like it. Much more so than Blogger! For one you get alot more control over the blog if needed.

Amazons Associate Scheme

Paul Kinlan

You may have noticed that my blog has related Amazon books for a particular post. Each of these books are hooked up to my Amazon Associates account. The intention is to provide my readers with books that might interest them and also then to make a little bit of money from the referal to Amazon.I have had one referal [Thank you to who ever that was, I appreciate it].My Question is: Do you [the readers] like this information that is attached to each post?

Business Blogging

Paul Kinlan

One of the web logs that I religously read is Robert Scobles, he has just released a book. It looks interesting, below is a synopsis. I can’t wait to have a read, only problem is that is is that it is not released in the UK yet. If the XBox 360 can have a near simulataneouse world wide release why can’t books [saying that I suppose harry potter did have one]According to these experts, blogs offer businesses something that has long been lacking in their communication with customers meaningful dialogue.

A Little excerpt about telecoms fraud

Paul Kinlan

I have just uploaded a little excerpt from my Final Year project about Telecoms Fraud. Basically I will use this as a grounding for creating my Neural Network in C#.Enjoy! :)Telecomm Fraud can be broken into several generic classes. These classes describe the mode in which the operator was defrauded and include subscription fraud, call surfing, ghosting, accounting fraud and information abuse. Each mode can be used to defraud the network for revenue based purposes or non-revenue based purposes.

Call Detail Record (CDR) Generation Tool

Paul Kinlan

I have uploaded the Call Detail Record Generator that I created for my final year project a couple of years ago [CDR Tool.zip]. It is a MS Access 2003 Application. The application will generate thousands of “virtual” phone calls mimicing specific groups of people that would be a telecom company’s customers. You can change so many parameters that it is unbelivable. You can model many types of users, High usage users, low usage users, fraudulent users, National Rate users etc etc.

Neural Networks, C# and telecoms fraud detection final year project

Paul Kinlan

One of the things I have regretted since I left university is that I have not followed up on my Final year Project [I will try and upload it soon, it was pretty smart.]. Bascially I made a system that created Telephone CDR records based off user determined call profiles. The data from these CDR was then passed into a neural network [Created using MATLAB] to see if the call history for a particalular telephone customer was fraudulent or not.

Paul Kinlan

A little while ago I wrote a little blog entry about the fact there are not many (if any) retail based Web Serivce APIS. That is for things such as Tesco’s, Dixon’s and HMV etc. Well it seems that over on www.maskell.uk.com there is an answer. There is an Soap API for ASDA. All I can say is Wow. I am not too sure how he does it but it might inlvove screen scraping or something.

Google Search: c# convert date from uk to usa

Paul Kinlan

One of the searches that came from Google to my site asked the following “c# convert date from uk to usa”.Now I don’t really know exactly what the user was asking for, but I presume it is something fairly simple. The way that I would convert a UK date into a US date is as follows.Read in the UK date, short format/long format whatever into a DateTime field. The output the date time using a US locale.

RSS Bandit 1.3.0.38 has been Released

Paul Kinlan

A new version of RSS bandit has been released. I like it and use the previous version all the time. What I like about this version is that it seems to correctly import Robert Scobles opml file [Which is massive]. Also the UI has been updated [Which is nice]. I have also noticed that it seems to display massive directories of posts a lot more quickly too. But that might be because I turned off the XSLT formatting of the aggregates.

XBox 360 and the .Net Framework

Paul Kinlan

Further to my post a little while back about using the .Net Framework in the XBox 360, it seems that because the XBox 360 is a media centre consumer, you can create Media Center applications, install them on the media server and then run the UI elements through the XBox 360 with all the logic run against the Media CenterNot too sure how this works, but their is an article about it over on MSDN.
